Law Firm of Gallo & Spero, LLP - Staten Island, NY. We are Staten Island's premier Personal Injury and Elder Law Attorneys providing the best possible outcome for your accident claim and the best possible estate and medicaid planning protection of your hard earned assets.

As one may know, caring for loved ones with disabilities can at times be extremely difficult. Our firm is dedicated to helping disabled persons get the best possible care and resources they deserve. Often those with disabilities receive Supplemental Security Income "SSI" and/or Medicaid services. Our firm can establish supplemental needs trusts and special needs trusts to protect excess assets and income for the disabled.

Our firm is also well-versed in the area of Guardianships. In New York, there are essentially two types of guardianship proceedings:

17A Guardianships: If you have a child who is developmentally and/or intellectually disabled and is nearing the majority age of 18, you as the parent will no longer be the natural guardian of that child upon him or her reaching majority age. Therefore, it is prudent to start a guardianship proceeding to appoint yourself as as the guardian of your child prior to your child attaining adulthood.

Article 81 Guardianships:  Very often a power of attorney (and/or health care proxy) is not in place before a loved one becomes incompetent or the power of attorney is somehow insufficient. If you have a disabled relative who is unable to manage his or her own affairs, a competent loved one should be appointed as guardian through the courts over the person and/or properrty of the disabled person.

Our firm is well-versed in the areas of Special Needs Planning and can effectively navigate you through their complex laws.
